This is only applicable to those courses who ask you to maintain an online journal, whether mandatory or optional. 

To maintain your journal, follow these steps:

1. Go to the link of the journal (often right above the list of lessons, sometimes also inside a lesson block).

2. Click "start or edit my journal entry".

3. Write your journal entry, and when you're done click "save changes".
